You've got your board, now you are going to need a wetsuit, especially if you're going to be surfing in the UK . There are stacks of different designs and thickness to suit different water temperatures. Choosing the correct wetsuit is very important as you want to be warm and comfortable in the water. A decent wetsuit will cost you between £100 and £300 and will be a great investment. 2mm/3mm would be fine for the cold water here in the UK although in the winter you will probably want a 5mm/4mm.
There are also wetsuit boots, gloves and hoods to keep you toasty in the winter and a rash vest is always a good idea. Rash vests are worn under the wetsuit to prevent chaffing on your neck and arm pits.
Your new wetsuit should fit nice and snug, not so tight that you can't breath or move but comfortable. No baggy bits either.
Looking after your wetsuit is very important. Wash your wetsuit out after every time you use it with fresh water, this will make your wetsuit last |
much longer as salt water will actually perish the wetsuit material. Also, when drying your wetsuit, hang it up to keep its shape. If you follow these simple instructions your wetsuit should give you many good years of warm and comfy surfing. And remember, the zip goes at the back!
